Community Spirit in Motion: BVASRA Brings Life into Adult Sports Scene in Blackstone

Blackstone Gets Its Game On
Blackstone is buzzing with a new initiative designed to bring neighbors together and inject some fun into adult life! The Blackstone Valley Adult Sports & Recreation Association (BVASRA) was launched in 2024 to fill a gap in recreational opportunities for residents beyond youth programs.
What is BVASRA?
The Blackstone Valley Adult Sports & Recreation Association is a newly formed group dedicated to organizing and running recreational athletic programs for adults in Blackstone and the surrounding communities. Founded by Tanya Polak, the association aims to create a space where adults of all backgrounds can connect with peers, promote their well-being, and embrace a healthier lifestyle. The core mission is to offer engaging activities that foster community spirit and provide opportunities for adults to be active and social.
What Does BVASRA Do?
BVASRA offers a variety of sports and recreational activities throughout the year. Since its inception, the association has successfully run several seasons of kickball, including both summer and fall leagues. They’ve also ventured into fitness activities like Pilates in the Park, which was offered for six weeks. Looking ahead, BVASRA has plans to expand its offerings to include flag football and other indoor activities during the winter months.
Last year saw successful seasons of:
- Summer Kickball: Navigating weather challenges to provide a fun and active season.
- Pilates in the Park: Six weeks of body and soul workouts.
- Fall Flag Football: Culminating in a championship win for the Silverbackz.
- Fall Kickball: Wrapping up with a friendly game and a social gathering at the Blackstone Polish American Citizens Club.
Currently, registration is open for Spring 2025 Kickball (Thursday evenings) and Flag Football (Sunday mornings). The association is also organizing its First Annual Adult Field Day, promising a nostalgic and fun event for the community.
Why is BVASRA Great for Blackstone?
The Blackstone Valley Adult Sports & Recreation Association offers numerous benefits to our community. Firstly, it provides much-needed recreational opportunities for adults who may have limited options for staying active and social. Beyond the physical activity, BVASRA fosters a strong sense of community by bringing together residents from Blackstone and neighboring towns. Participants have the chance to meet new people, build friendships, and strengthen neighborhood connections through shared experiences. The positive feedback from the inaugural seasons highlights the camaraderie and fun that these activities have generated.
Looking to the Future
BVASRA has ambitious plans for growth. The association intends to expand its program to include even more diverse sports and events in the coming years. The upcoming First Annual Adult Field Day is just one example of their commitment to offering engaging and inclusive activities for everyone. This growth will provide even more opportunities for adults in our community to get involved and connect with one another.
