The Avery Markle Band: Small Town Roots, Timeless Sound

Tucked among the trees in a quiet corner of Blackstone, Massachusetts, a voice was finding its way into the world. That voice belonged to Avery Markle—singer, songwriter, and lifelong town resident—who now leads a band carrying her name and her stories onto bigger stages, starting with a new music video set to premiere July 18.

With deeply personal lyrics and a sound she calls “nostalgic soft rock,” The Avery Markle Band is the kind of act that could only grow out of a small-town setting—one where nature, family, and community still matter.

Blackstone Is Where the Story Begins

Avery has spent her whole life in Blackstone—still living in her childhood home, surrounded by forest. That closeness to place and memory shapes her songwriting and fuels her creative rhythm.

What once felt small now feels grounding. “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to truly appreciate this tiny town and everything it has to offer,” she shared. Her father grew up here too, and most of his side of the family still lives nearby.

It’s no surprise that Blackstone has shaped her journey—not just in where it began, but in how it continues. Performing at local events, including the town’s Memorial Day celebrations, has felt like a full-circle moment—not an ending, but a return to where her voice first took shape. Childhood dreams of being a singer are no longer just dreams—they’re in motion, and they started right here.

A New Chapter for The Avery Markle Band

After several years performing as Lady Anemoia, Avery and longtime guitarist Joe Ackaway decided 2025 would be the start of something new. With a changing sound and a growing vision, the band reintroduced itself under a name that felt more honest—and more personal.

To mark the beginning of this new era, The Avery Markle Band released their debut single, Away From Me, in January. The track blends introspective lyrics with a nostalgic soft-rock feel, setting the tone for everything that’s come since.

Their first live performance under the new name took place at Stone Cow Brewery in Barre. Even a sudden downpour and some unexpected flooding couldn’t dampen the moment. As they wrapped their final song, the skies cleared—literally—and Avery looked out to a room filled with friends and family who’d been waiting for their return.

In addition to longtime collaborator Joe Ackaway on guitar, the band now features Peter Hamel and Matt Hersee, musicians from nearby towns who first connected with Avery when Lady Anemoia shared a show with their band, Norris the Terrible. Rounding out the lineup is Jake Harris on drums, whose creative energy has helped bring the band’s sound to another level. Together, they’ve built a dynamic and collaborative group, brought together by shared passion and the kind of musical friendships that only form when the right people find each other at the right time.

Baby Steps and Big Messages

The band’s new single, Baby Steps, premieres as a full-length music video on Friday, July 18 at Union Station Brewery in Providence. Written during a time of self-reflection, the song became an anthem for anyone feeling uncertain about growing up.

It’s a reminder to give yourself grace,” Avery says. The track captures a common fear—time slipping too fast—but turns it into something uplifting, even joyful.

Filming the video was just as meaningful as the message. “We got to act and play like kids,” Avery shared, describing her favorite part: dancing behind a backlit sheet, casting dreamy shadows alongside her bandmates. “The video shoot was very laid back, and I think that’s what made it so fun.

With visuals created by videographer Nate Robichaud and a message that speaks to anyone still finding their way, Baby Steps is more than a music video—it’s a reflection of the moments that shape us, the fears we outgrow, and the grace we learn to give ourselves along the way.

It’s the kind of project that reveals not just an artist’s sound, but her heart.
