Earth Day in Blackstone & Millville: A Week of Growth, Gratitude, and Giving Back

Update (April 23, 2025): Millville has announced its own Earth Day cleanup! While it’s taking place a bit later this spring, the mission remains the same—pitching in to help Millville shine. Details have been added below.

While Earth Day officially falls on Tuesday, April 22, Blackstone and Millville are making the most of the week with two meaningful community events—plus ideas to keep the spirit going at home. Whether you’re planting seeds with your kids or picking up trash with neighbors, there’s something everyone can do to make our towns greener and more connected.

Tuesday, April 22: Seed Planting at Millville Public Library

The Blackstone-Millville Garden Club will kick off the week on Earth Day itself with a special hands-on event for kids at the Millville Public Library.

From 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, children will be invited to plant sunflower seeds in transparent pots, giving them a chance to watch roots grow and learn about the science of plants. It’s a fun, colorful introduction to gardening—and a great reminder that even small hands can nurture something beautiful.

All are welcome—come grow with us!

Sunday, April 27: Let’s Clean Up Blackstone Together!

On Saturday, the celebration continues in Blackstone with a town-wide Earth Day Clean-Up effort. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to take part.

Clean-Up Details:

Check-in anytime between 8 AM – 12 PM behind the Municipal Center (15 St. Paul Street)
Pick up supplies (bags, gloves, instructions)
Choose a location to clean up
Leave filled bags in marked spots for DPW to collect

Bonus: Volunteers will be treated to lunch as a thank-you for making Blackstone shine!

Stick Around for a Community Art Project (1 PM – 3 PM)

After the clean-up, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, everyone is invited to participate in a community art project—a perfect way to keep the positive energy flowing!

This year, we’ll be painting fence posts that will be used in the new Senior Center Garden. No experience is needed—just bring your creativity and community spirit. All supplies will be provided.

This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals, families, scout troops, students, and other community groups to leave a colorful mark on a meaningful project.

Join your neighbors to help clean up Millville to celebrate Earth Day! Meet at the Greenway parking lot between 9:00–9:30 AM to pick up gloves and trash bags, then pitch in to make Millville shine.

Rain date: Sunday, May 11.

Can’t Make It to the Organized Events? Here’s How You Can Still Help:

If your schedule doesn’t allow you to participate in the organized events, there are still plenty of ways to show the planet some love:

  • Clean up your own street, yard, or a favorite walking trail
  • Pick up litter during your daily walk (just bring gloves and a bag!)
  • Plant native flowers or a pollinator-friendly garden
  • Sort and properly dispose of recyclables at home
  • Involve kids in eco-activities like making art from recyclables or reading books about nature

This Earth Week, let’s come together in small ways that make a big difference. Whether you’re planting seeds, collecting trash, or painting for a cause, you’re helping our towns grow stronger, cleaner, and more connected. 🌍💚
