West Nile Virus Found Twice in Millville Mosquito Sample: What It Means for Local Residents
Millville has now had two confirmed West Nile Virus-positive mosquito samples this season — the first detected on July 29 and the second on August 8, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. While the town’s official risk level has not been elevated, repeated detections confirm that the virus is present locally and should be taken seriously.
Statewide, there have been 168 positive mosquito samples for West Nile Virus as of August 13, 2025. Among these, there has been 1 confirmed animal case and 0 human cases so far this season. On August 12, Massachusetts raised the West Nile Virus risk in Massachusetts for the following communities: Acton, Bedford, Billerica, Boston, Brookline, Carlisle, Chelmsford, Dracut, Lowell, and Newton.
Although Blackstone has not had a confirmed sample this season, residents in both towns are encouraged to take precautions, participate in free mosquito spraying, and stay informed as conditions can change quickly.
