Experience Living History: Civil War Reenactment at Daniels Farmstead in Blackstone

A Rainy Start, But History Came Alive — Civil War Reenactment at Daniels Farm Continues Tomorrow

Despite a misty start to the day and a soggy field underfoot, the Civil War reenactment today at Daniels Farmstead in Blackstone kicked off with strong community spirit and an enthusiastic crowd.

As light rain hovered more like a fog than a downpour, visitors wandered through rows of canvas tents, chatting with reenactors in full 19th-century uniform. Many were eager to share their knowledge and answer questions about daily life, battle routines, and the historical significance of the items in their encampments. From the distinct aroma of wood smoke to the clink of tin cups and cooking gear, the farm felt transported to another time.

In between events, visitors browsed the sutlers’ market where historical wares, handmade goods, and reenactment accessories were available for purchase.

There were also modern local vendors offering fudge, flowers, dog treats, and more. Hungry visitors could grab a bite at Doris’s Grill, serving up hot dogs, burgers, chips, and drinks. Coffee and baked goods were also available—perfect for snacking while exploring the grounds. The farmhouse was also open for tours, giving guests another glimpse into life in the 1800s.

Tonight at 8:30 p.m., the experience continues with a candlelight tour of the camp—a quieter, more atmospheric chance to walk the grounds, meet reenactors by lantern glow, and take in the sights and sounds of the encampment after dark.

The event continues tomorrow June 29, Sunday, with more history, more battles, and (thankfully) a sunnier forecast. The battle formation begins again at 1:30 p.m., but we recommend arriving earlier to explore the grounds, chat with the living historians, visit vendors, and take a tour of the farmhouse.

This event is also a fundraiser for Daniels Farmstead Foundation, which works to preserve and share the history of this local gem. Attending helps support their ongoing efforts—and it’s a great way to spend time with family while learning something new.

Tip from today’s visitors: Even with better weather expected, wear sturdy shoes! The field is still wet and mucky from today’s mist. A pair of boots or waterproof shoes will go a long way in keeping your socks dry.
