Getting to Know Blackstone Senior Center Director Tiziana Milano

Blackstone Senior Center Director Tiziana Milano Brings Creativity and Care to the Role

This summer, Blackstone officially welcomed Tiziana Milano as the new Blackstone Senior Center Director. At the July 22 Board of Selectmen meeting, Town Administrator Chad Lovett introduced her to the community, marking an important step in a hiring process that town leaders had emphasized was about more than qualifications—it was about finding someone who could truly connect with seniors.

Milano, who has a background that blends municipal work, customer service, and creative entrepreneurship, says stepping into this role feels like the right fit. “When I came to Blackstone, it just felt right,” she explained. “I’d helped a friend with her senior classes here and in Millville before, and even then the community made me feel so welcome—it felt like home.

Building on a Strong Foundation

The Center already has a variety of programs and services in place, something Milano deeply appreciates. Her goal is to build on that strong foundation by expanding offerings that make everyday life a little easier—and a little more enjoyable—for seniors.

There’s already so much happening, which is fantastic,” she said. “I’d love to expand some of the everyday services we offer—things that make life easier and more enjoyable for Blackstone’s residents.

Her approach begins with listening and observing. “Every group is unique, and I want to understand what matters most to the people we serve,” she explained. “I’m also a creative person, so I enjoy finding ways to make programs visually engaging and fun.

A Balance of Structure and Imagination

Milano’s background might not be the traditional path to becoming a Blackstone Senior Center Director, but she sees her mix of experiences as an asset. She previously worked as an office manager and transportation coordinator, where she learned the inner workings of senior services. Alongside that, her creative ventures have shaped her ability to think outside the box.

It gives me a balance of structure and imagination,” she said. “Public service taught me the importance of organization and meeting people’s needs, while my creative side helps me think outside the box—whether it’s planning an event, solving a problem, or finding a fresh way to engage people.

Changing Perceptions of Senior Centers

One of Milano’s passions is shifting how people view senior centers. “We are so much more than ‘adult day care’!” she said with enthusiasm. “The seniors who come here are vibrant, active, and full of energy. They’re looking for a place to socialize, learn, and have fun. Many have spent their lives working hard and giving back, and this is their space to relax, try something new, and enjoy time with their peers in a welcoming environment.

Putting People First

During the hiring process, town leaders and community members emphasized the need for a director who could truly connect with seniors on a personal level. Milano wholeheartedly agrees with that vision.

Our seniors are people first, and that’s how I approach this role,” she said. “Yes, it’s a job, but for me it’s really about creating a place where seniors feel valued, heard, and cared for. I make it a point to engage with them daily, ask for their input, and make sure their ideas shape what we offer. This is their space, and I want them to feel that every time they walk through the door.

Life Beyond Work

Outside of her role as Blackstone Senior Center Director, Milano enjoys staying active and creative. Hiking and running are two of her favorite pastimes, and she regularly participates in races ranging from 5Ks to marathons. “It’s something that keeps me grounded and energized,” she said.

When she’s at the Center, residents can expect to see her moving around, checking in, and engaging directly. “If my door is closed, I’m probably out with residents—joining them for lunch, attending a presentation, or walking with a group,” she said. “When I’m here, I’m always moving around, making sure programs are running smoothly.”

The Senior Center in Blackstone

The Blackstone Senior Center has long been a valuable resource for the town—offering programs, meals, health services, educational workshops, and plenty of opportunities to socialize. It’s a place where residents can connect, stay active, and find support close to home.
