Help Stock the Shelves: Blackstone Lions Food Drive April 19

As Food Bank Funding Shrinks, Blackstone Lions Step Up with Annual Drive

Across the country, food banks are feeling the strain of budget cuts—and our own community is no exception. As federal and state funding for hunger relief programs tightens, local pantries are relying more than ever on the generosity of neighbors. That’s why the Blackstone Lions is hosting its Annual Food Drive this Saturday, April 19, from 9 AM to 1 PM in front of Blackstone Town Hall—and they’re counting on our help.

The donations will go directly to support the Blackstone-Millville Food Pantry, located at the Divine Mercy Parish on St. Paul St. This vital community resource provides groceries and basic necessities to families right here in Blackstone and Millville who are struggling to make ends meet.

What to Donate:

While any non-perishable food is welcome, here are some helpful suggestions to make the biggest impact:

🥫 Food Items:

  • Canned vegetables and fruits (green beans, corn etc.)
  • Canned meats (tuna, chicken, ham)
  • Baked beans/Pork and beans
  • Pasta and pasta sauce
  • Rice and instant potatoes
  • Peanut butter and jelly
  • Mac n’ Cheese
  • Canned soups and stews
  • Coffee, Tea, Juice
  • Boxes of individual snacks, oatmeal, cereal
  • Cans or cups of fruit

🧼 Hygiene and Household Items (often overlooked, always needed!):

  • Toilet paper
  • Toothpaste and toothbrushes
  • Soap and body wash
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Deodorant
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Diapers and baby wipes
  • Laundry detergent (small sizes)

Every item helps. Donations like these provide not just sustenance, but dignity and relief to families going through tough times.

Why It Matters:

When families don’t have to choose between groceries and gas or rent, the whole community benefits. Kids can go to school nourished and ready to learn. Seniors on fixed incomes can breathe a little easier. Struggling parents feel the support of the town behind them.

Let’s Show What a Small Town Can Do

Blackstone and Millville have always had a strong sense of community—and now’s the time to show it. Whether you drop off a few cans or fill a trunk, your donation will make a difference. If you can’t make it this Saturday, consider sharing this event with friends, neighbors, and local groups.

Together, we can keep the pantry shelves stocked and the hope flowing.
