BMRSD Superintendent Jason DeFalco Selected as Interim Leader of Marlborough Public Schools

Local Superintendent’s New Role Comes Amid Marlborough’s Search for Leadership

After seven years of dedicated service to the Blackstone-Millville Regional School District (BMRSD), Superintendent Jason DeFalco has been selected as Interim Superintendent for Marlborough Public Schools.

DeFalco’s decision to take on the interim role in Marlborough comes after a series of developments in the Marlborough School District, which has been seeking leadership for the 2025-26 school year. In a meeting on March 25, 2025, the Marlborough School Committee discussed its challenges in hiring a permanent superintendent, following the retirement announcement of Superintendent Mary Murphy, who will step down on June 30 after three years in the role. After two finalists for the permanent role were not selected, the committee chose to reopen the search for a permanent superintendent and appoint an interim leader for the upcoming school year.

DeFalco reflected on his professional roots in urban education. “As some of you may know, my career began in urban education — a setting that has always held a special place in my heart,” he wrote in a message to the BMRSD community.

While the details of his transition from BMRSD have yet to be finalized, DeFalco assured the community that he remains focused on the work ahead. “I remain committed to a strong and focused finish to the school year and will share additional details as they become available,” he wrote.

The interim superintendent role in Marlborough is set to begin on July 1, 2025, and is expected to last for one year. According to the job posting, the Marlborough School Committee sought a leader to guide the district in pursuit of educational excellence, improve the learning experience for every student, and oversee key responsibilities such as budget preparation and collective bargaining with school staff.

Small Town Post will continue to track both the leadership transition in Blackstone-Millville and the ongoing search for a permanent superintendent in Marlborough, providing updates to the community as new details emerge. At this time, an official announcement confirming DeFalco’s appointment from Marlborough Public Schools has not yet been made.
