Blackstone Semiquincentennial: Your Chance to Shape History

On July 4, 2026, our nation will mark a once-in-a-lifetime milestone—the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Across America, communities are preparing celebrations that honor our past, recognize the contributions of all Americans, and look toward the future we want to build for the next generation.

Blackstone is ready to take part. And this time, the story of how we celebrate starts with you.

This isn’t just an idea that popped up overnight. The Board of Selectmen has mentioned the Semiquincentennial in several meetings, showing that town leadership is committed to making this a meaningful and inclusive celebration. The town is officially kicking off preparations with a public workshop on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM. The workshop will be held in the John Eldridge Meeting Room at Blackstone Town Hall, with a Zoom option for those who cannot attend in person:

Why It Matters to Blackstone

Think back to the celebrations that once brought our town together—parades that filled Main Street, festivals that drew families outdoors, events where neighbors laughed and celebrated side by side. Those moments didn’t just happen; they were built by people who showed up with ideas, energy, and a belief that Blackstone deserved something special.

The Semiquincentennial is bigger—250 years only comes once. Perhaps you’re inspired by stories of the East Blackstone Fair in the 1950s, when neighbors pulled together to create something that drew big crowds and lasting memories. That spirit isn’t gone; it’s waiting to be brought back. This celebration is our chance to revive that energy and show what Blackstone can do when the community comes together.

How You Can Shape the Celebration

The August 23 workshop isn’t just a meeting—it’s the first step toward creating something extraordinary. Bring your ideas, contacts, and creativity:

  • Know a local performer, historian, or organization that could participate?
  • Have resources, equipment, or sponsorship ideas?
  • Simply have a vision for what Blackstone could do to mark this milestone?

Every contribution counts. Families, local businesses, organizations, and individuals—all voices matter in shaping a celebration that reflects our town’s spirit.

Don’t Miss This Chance

If you’ve helped plan town events in the past, come back for this one. If you’ve never been involved before, now is the time. Don’t let others decide what Blackstone’s celebration should look like—help shape it yourself.

The Semiquincentennial is more than a date on the calendar—it’s a moment to carry forward the traditions of those who came before us while building something new for the next generation. Our parents and grandparents gave us parades, fairs, and gatherings that defined what it meant to grow up in Blackstone. Now it’s our turn to take up that torch, to show our pride as a community, and to create memories that our children and grandchildren will one day cherish.

When neighbors, families, organizations, and businesses come together, Blackstone shines. Let’s make this Semiquincentennial not just an event to attend, but a legacy we build together—one that honors our history, celebrates our present, and inspires the future.

At Small Town Post, we celebrate the people, stories, and moments that make Blackstone special. Have ideas, memories, or photos to share? Send them our way anytime, and follow us on Facebook for updates as we prepare for this historic Semiquincentennial celebration. Together, we can make sure this milestone is remembered for generations to come.
