Millville Elementary School Water Update: October Completion Target

Millville Elementary School Water Update: Progress and Timeline Shared
At the July 21 Blackstone-Millville Regional School Committee meeting, local leaders provided an important Millville Elementary School water update—and it’s full steam ahead. With construction now underway and new technology shipping soon, the town is aiming for completion by mid-October.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s happening and what families can expect.
Construction Has Begun on the Water System
During the July 21 meeting, Selectman Jennifer Gil and Town Administrator Peter Caruso shared the latest Millville Elementary School water update with the BMR School Committee. Construction officially began on July 15, and necessary permits are in place.
As of that week, the town had received confirmation from the water operator that the new technology is in the process of shipping—expected by the end of that same week.
Target Completion Date: October 15
The projected timeline, originally shared in May, outlines a three-month installation period, with a goal of completing everything by October 15. While they’re hoping to finish even sooner, officials were careful not to overpromise.
“We feel very confident that this will be done by October 15,” said Millville Selectman Jennifer Gil. “But with installations, something could always arise.”
In the meantime, the Town of Millville has already approved the continued use of bottled water for both drinking and cooking throughout the school year.
Public Access to Water Testing Results
School Committee member Keri Greene Gaudette asked whether the monthly water test results would be made publicly available. Caruso responded that although the town doesn’t currently post them, they likely will begin doing so—with simplified summaries prepared by water consultant McClure to make the reports easier to understand.
Selectman Gil added that the town can provide monthly updates or appear quarterly before the committee to share results and status reports. The next Millville Elementary School water update will come at the August 21 School Committee meeting, and the water operator will be invited to attend.
Early Test Results Are Looking Promising
Caruso also noted that testing data from the past three months (excluding July) has shown improvement in water quality, with levels well below the maximum contaminant limit that had raised concerns in the past. “They have a good handle on that at this stage,” he said, adding that it’s a big step forward for both the town and the school district.
State and Local Eyes on Millville’s Progress
BMR School Committee Chair Dan Keefe noted that many are watching the project closely.
“There will be a lot of eyes on this—the state and other communities as well,” Keefe said.

The improvements at Millville Elementary could set a model for other towns dealing with similar infrastructure challenges.
A Long-Awaited Step Forward for Millville
This Millville Elementary School water update marks a turning point in what’s been a long, challenging process for the town. After community concern, careful planning, and securing a much-needed grant, construction is finally underway.
In past months, tensions and frustration understandably grew among parents, educators, and residents—but now, real progress is being made. The timeline is clear, bottled water will remain available, and for the first time, public access to monthly water testing results is expected, creating more transparency moving forward.
The next key update will come during the August 21 BMR School Committee meeting, when officials will share the latest on equipment installation and testing progress. It’s a promising sign of accountability, communication, and forward momentum for Millville.
