Free Summer Meals Now Available for Blackstone and Millville Children Through Summer Eats Program

Families in Blackstone and Millville have a new resource to help keep children fed during the summer break.
Blackstone Parks & Recreation posted on Facebook on Sunday, July 5, that the Blackstone-Millville Regional School District has been approved to participate in Project Bread’s Summer Eats program, bringing free grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches to local children throughout July.
The program was made possible through the efforts of Melissa DeCastro, Director of Food Services for the Blackstone-Millville Regional School District, who applied for the district to become a Summer Eats meal site.
Although meals are distributed from Millville Elementary School, the program is available to all children and teens ages 18 and under from both Blackstone and Millville, regardless of household income or school enrollment.
Beginning Monday, July 6, free grab-and-go meals are available Monday through Thursday through July 30 at Millville Elementary School.
Meal Pickup Schedule
- Breakfast: 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
- Lunch: 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Summer Eats is a statewide initiative administered by Project Bread in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The program helps ensure children continue to have access to healthy meals while school is out for the summer. There is no registration, application, or income requirement, and eligible children may receive meals at participating sites across Massachusetts.
For the Blackstone-Millville Regional School District, participation in the Summer Eats program represents an important opportunity to expand access to nutritious meals for local families during the summer months. Thanks to the efforts of the district’s food services team, children throughout both communities now have a convenient, no-cost option for breakfast and lunch while school is out.
Families are encouraged to take advantage of the program throughout July and help spread the word so that every eligible child in Blackstone and Millville can benefit from this new community resource.
