Mosquito Control Program Returns to Blackstone and Millville for Summer 2026

As warmer weather settles into the Blackstone Valley, the Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project (CMMCP) has officially begun its annual mosquito control program for the 2026 season.

Serving communities throughout Worcester and Middlesex counties, CMMCP provides a comprehensive mosquito management program designed to reduce mosquito populations and help protect public health. The service is available to residents of both Blackstone and Millville at no cost through the towns’ membership in the regional program.

While many people associate mosquito control with truck-mounted spraying, CMMCP’s efforts extend far beyond that. The agency conducts mosquito surveillance, larval control, public education, habitat management, source reduction, and disease monitoring throughout the season.

Mosquito activity typically begins increasing in late spring and continues through the summer months. Technicians monitor mosquito populations and test samples for mosquito-borne illnesses, including West Nile virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), helping local and state health officials track potential risks.

Residents experiencing mosquito problems on their property can request service directly through CMMCP. Depending on mosquito populations and conditions in the area, technicians may inspect the location and determine whether control measures are warranted.

The agency also encourages homeowners to take simple steps to reduce mosquito breeding sites around their properties. Emptying containers that collect standing water, changing birdbath water regularly, cleaning gutters, and storing outdoor items that can hold rainwater can significantly reduce mosquito populations.

For residents who do not wish to have mosquito spraying conducted near their property, Massachusetts offers a pesticide exclusion program. Property owners may request exclusion from wide-area mosquito spraying through the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources.

Throughout the season, CMMCP will continue monitoring mosquito activity and responding to service requests from participating communities.

Residents can learn more about mosquito control services, request assistance, or apply for pesticide exclusion through the Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project website.
