Celebrating 75 Years of Community: A Spotlight on the Chestnut Hill Community Association

Nestled in the quiet hills of Millville, the Chestnut Hill Community Association (CHCA) has long been a symbol of neighborly spirit and togetherness. What began as a small gathering in a neighbor’s home back in October of 1950 has grown into a cherished local institution — and this year, the CHCA is celebrating its 75th anniversary with new energy, fresh events, and a renewed mission to bring the community closer than ever.
A Legacy of Fellowship
The story of the CHCA began in the living room of Holding Wickstrom, where 17 local residents met with a shared goal: to create a place of fellowship and community support. Their dedication led to the donation of land along what is now the pipeline on upper Chestnut Hill Road, a space that would become a hub for social connection.
When the pipeline came through, the association found a new home at 385 Chestnut Hill Road, where it continues to operate today. Over time, the women of the community created their own group, the Get Together Club, which eventually joined forces with the CHCA to become one inclusive and vibrant association.
Though the pace of life and changing times saw the club slow down in recent years, 2025 marks a turning point — a time of revitalization, celebration, and growth.
A Mission Renewed
At its heart, the Chestnut Hill Community Association exists “to promote good will and community spirit for the benefit of the membership and the entire community.” That spirit is alive and well as the group seeks to grow its membership, host more events, and create a welcoming place for everyone — not just those on Chestnut Hill Road, but across Millville and beyond.
Annual membership is open to all, with dues of just $15 for individuals or $25 for couples. Members can help plan events, bring new ideas to life, and even rent the CHCA hall at a discounted rate.
Events That Bring People Together

The CHCA has a full calendar of events this year, starting with an Artisan Fair on May 31, hosted in partnership with local favorite Pirate Pigs Pottery. With 25 vendors already lined up, it promises to be a creative and community-centered day.
The biggest celebration, however, will come on August 9, when the association hosts its official 75th Anniversary Celebration — a festive day of games, music, food, raffles, and good old-fashioned fun.
Beyond those, the CHCA hosts monthly gatherings that include popular potlucks and themed events — all designed to bring neighbors together in meaningful ways.
Supporting the Next Generation
In addition to building community through events, the CHCA also gives back through the Clarice Daniels Southwick Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded each year to a graduating high school senior. This thoughtful gesture honors the legacy of service and generosity that defines the association. In 2025, the CHCA is working to enhance and expand the scholarship program — a testament to its commitment to supporting the next generation of Millville residents.
A Space for Everyone
Looking for a place to host your own event? The CHCA hall and surrounding grounds are available for rental, whether you’re organizing a party, class, workshop, or community meeting. They also offer free meeting space for town groups who need a place to connect.
The association encourages anyone with talents to share — whether it’s yoga instruction, crafting skills, music, or something else — to host a gathering or teach a class. The CHCA is more than a hall — it’s a stage for the many passions and talents found right here in our town.
